An Interview with Tenna Merchant : He's Not Autistic But

1) You have written a book entitled He's Not Autistic, But…How We Pulled Our Son From the Mouth of the Abyss.

What prompted you to write a book about your son?

I felt like it was important to warn people about the mistakes I had made such as vaccinating, consuming aspartame, and using products with aluminum, in hopes they wouldn't make the same mistakes I made.

I also wanted to let people know that there was a way to undo some of the damage, which is done with "releasing" a type of energy medicine I describe in detail in the book.

2) At what age was your son diagnosed with autism? Did you feel it was correct?

He was 2 years old when the medical doctor, an immune specialist said he was "at risk for autsim" because he shared "a biomedical spectrum of disorders with the autistic".

3) Was he put on medication? How did he respond? What kinds of medication?

Yes he was. First it was antihistamines which just made him crazy, so we eventually quit using them. Towards the end he was on diflucan, a powerful antifungal, and growth hormone, because he wasn't producing it himself. No, neither of them made an improvement.

4) What was your biggest problem with physicians? Are they adequately trained?

The pediatricians were oblivious to his problems. They are not properly trained to look for autism. And they definitely don't acknowledge the role that the vaccines play in the illness.

They kept telling me he was normal. He couldn't talk, spinned in circles, walked on his toes, banged his head, had severe allergies, and autism never entered their minds. All they could do was put his height and weight on those little charts, write prescriptions, and push vaccines. Even as sick as my son was, they kept asking me when he was going to get his MMR.

Yes, that the one Jenny McCarthy calls "the autism shot". Luckily, I never let them give that last vaccine to my son.

5) How did you get involved with herbal medicine?

I was desperate. Traditional medicine didn't help, and in many ways made things much worse. I started seeing anyone that I thought might be able to help. Finally, I was able to find an herbalist who could tell me what was wrong.

6) What role did aluminum play? Vaccines ? Thimerosol ?

Aluminum was the underlying cause of Clay's illness, and unfortunately, most vaccines contain aluminum. So, an already sick child was getting further poisoned everytime they gave him a shot. As I looked at his medical records, there was a clear pattern, he'd get a shot, and we'd end up at the ER, or calling for antibiotics, or an antifungal, something always went wrong or got worse.

7) How old is he now and how is he functioning?

He's perfectly normal now.

8) Did you have problems with the Special Education System?

Not so much problems, they just didn't help much. The biggest thing I learned from them was not to anticipate his needs. That was making easier for a non-verbal child.
