Increasing the Variety and Choice of Quality Schooling Options in Qatar
In order to offer parents further variety of school choices, over the next few years, the SEC aims to bring private schools into the education system through an educational Voucher Program. Over time, parents will be able to use educational vouchers towards the tuition costs in the school of their choice – either Independent or accredited private.
The Supreme Education Council today announced that the Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions from Houston, Texas in the United States and The International School of London (pre-K – 12) will open branches in Qatar and begin operations in September 2008. The two schools will offer different programs which will greatly enhance schooling options for Qataris and expatriates.

New programs to increase variety and choice in schooling options
The Supreme Education Council (SEC) announced the launch of the educational voucher program and the Outstanding Schools programs aimed at increasing the variety and choice in quality schooling options in Qatar.

Children aged between 8 and 12 will get the opportunity to learn science by transforming theories into joyful and fun games during the 10-day Science Education Event being held at the City Center in May as part of the ongoing Ever Wondered campaign spearheaded by the Supreme Education Council.

The Evaluation Institute of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) has released its newly issued report - "School and Schooling in Qatar" 2006 - 2007 containing an array of information about Qatar’s schools, principals, students and their parents for the academic year 2006 -2007.
Parents can have a tremendous impact on the educational success of their children according to speakers at the Supreme Education Council’s annual symposium, “Parents: Partners in Education.”
The Education Institute announced the formation of a high-level committee comprising leading experts in the mathematics field to assess the teaching methods and provide recommendations on how to improve the performance levels of students and their achievement in mathematics.
The Education Institute has issued several regulations based on decision No. 1 for the year 2008 on the policy of discipline and moral behaviour in schools issued last January by HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Heir Apparent and Chair of the Supreme Education Council.
Over 120 teachers from independent schools will this month begin professional development programs in physical education aimed at developing their confidence and competence in delivering quality PE lessons.
Five universities from the United Kingdom gave detailed explanations on the processes of applying to all universities in Britain like registration requirements at a meeting held at the Higher Education Institute via satellite (DVC).
